April 18, 2018, A 22-kilogram tumor was successfully removed from a 55-year-old woman during a surgical procedure conducted at the Wollega University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. The patient, a 55-year-old mother, initially believed she was pregnant. However, over the past eight months, her abdomen began to enlarge rapidly, causing significant pain. Her condition had worsened significantly in recent days, leading her to seek medical attention. Upon arriving at Wollega University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, she underwent several medical examinations. Based on CT scans and ultrasound results, doctors suspected a massive growth originating from the ovaries.
A multidisciplinary surgical team consisting of specialists from the Department of Surgery and Gynecological Oncologists—performed the operation. The successful surgery resulted in the removal of a tumor weighing exactly 22 kg. The hospital reports that the patient is currently in good recovery following the procedure. The removed mass has been sent to the Pathology department for further diagnostic testing.
"We extend our gratitude to the medical professionals who participated in this surgery and saved this mother's life" .vv
